The Chernobyl Bride is initially a wedding dress consisting of gas masks, a veil and a bridal headband, used for a series of performances. Everywhere our bride parades, she reveals herself as an allegory that challenges us on the sometimes dramatic consequences of the human actions. A fragile figure, she evolves smoothly in an apocalyptic world; an enigmatic Madonna behind her veil, almost invisible but intensely present, she exposes her beauty to the devasted world as a cure for human’s madness. The Last Supper serie is the last work I made in Ukraine, it will continue this year with more “dinners” . The first “Last Supper in Chernobyl” photograph was taken during a performance at Bereznitska Art Foundation in Kiev, the following 25 Last Supper photographs were taken in a white studio, to give immaculate images with a sterile background similar to Fashion advertisements, opposite to what Chernobyl is... Invited around the table are any representative groups from the past to contemporary Ukraine, from communist pioneer girls to oligarchy... this series is my modest homage to fascinating Ukraine where I spent the last four years, my foreign eye on it, my warm testimony about its beauty and suffering with all my love.
