Ghetto Tarot

The Ghetto Tarot is a project by photographer Alice Smeets. The pictures taken in the Haitian slum show the re-enacted scenes of the famous, orginal Rider-Waite Tarot deck, using only materials that could be found in the ghetto, while preserving the spirit and meaning of the card. If an item couldn't be found or recreated, it was replaced by a Voodoo symbol with the same meaning.
