More than 25 years ago I first visited Mexico city. I wanted to document popular culture and focussed on three expressions of that culture; the lucha libre, mariachi music and the omnipresence of Catholicism. During my stay I also had the privilege to witness the celebration of the qualification of the national football team for the world cup. The photographs were taken with two Pentax 67's, one fitted with a 55 mm f/4 lens, the other with a 105 mm f/2.8. I shot on Ilford HP5+ and developed the films in Tetenal Eukobrom.
