The Way They Were, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 1986

I traveled Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China In1986. In these day, China was underway to the open policy and I could travel any place without permission. I visited some cities like Urumqi, Kuca and Kaxgar by train and bus. It was a hard trip without modern facilities but I could see daily life of the people living there. it seemed to me that they keep their own traditional way of life and values. I think their living standards have got better and they could be well-off today but I am afraid that they might have lost something important.
