São Paulo, Brazil. 30 days in isolation with my 6-year-old nephew
I live in São Paulo, one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Brazil. It is also the city most affected by the new coranavirus in the country. The government of São Paulo only thought that everything should stop around March 15th. On the 17th, the company I worked for decided that employees should stay at home. And the quarantine should extend until May 10. Today is the 31st day of work away from the office. There is no forecast of return. I am in almost total isolation. In those four weeks I left home only 6 times to go to the pharmacy and the supermarket. I call these moments happy hours.
Staying at home so long is no easy task for me, a hyperactive person. Especially with a child full of energy together. And look, I'm privileged. The 75 meters is an area much larger than that of most of the new apartments in the city. And I don't even need to talk about most people in a city where social inequality is a hallmark.
My condo also helps - even though the building closed the common spaces after the quarantine was declared in the city, there is still a very nice outdoor area. That's where I take my nephew daily to play ball or shuttlecock. Another hour of joy. Television is an ally to pass the time. Computers and cell phones too.
