Our Elders

”Our Elders” is my project about elderly people in Bucharest, Romania, only with candid snapshots. I’m keen on street and documentary photography and I like to take my camera to the streets, documenting daily life of Bucharest (Romania), intriguing places, scenes and especially people who for me represent the last remaining witnesses of bygone worlds, people with a completely different mentality and appearance than today's generations. I focus my camera on this kind of person, because for me they represent “characters”, that simultaneously exhale sadness and humor, tragedy and comic and a kind of vulnerability. And, for me, they seem to be much more expressive and ”transparent” than young people, in whom I can hardly read the inner life. So, I sympathize with ”our elders” and I like to think that my pictures can express my compassion for them, while also reviving some sort of ”charm” from the past… What defines my photographic style is getting closer to the subject without intruding, in order to catch a glimpse of people without any social mask. I think that in the moments when people are by themselves, including on the street, what they really keep inside shines through. I would like to capture such moments in my street photography.
