Once our photowalk through the mesmerizing streets of North Kolkata was over , I decided to do my personal work and took a stroll through the region famous for its long tradition of clay idol-making - Kumartuli (the potter's abode as they say) . It was raining and everything was drenched including my camera gear .It was quite late in the evening and the idol manufacturing workshops were getting closed leaving all the unfinished god idols locked in darkness.Rows of idols in various stages of completion stood inside the dark workshops. In about three months, these rudimentary frames will emerge as the ten-handed Goddess Durga standing over a lion in her demon-slaying pose.
It was strange and fascinating for me to see these idols abondoned in dirt and darkness before they are actually worshipped during Durga-Puja. I was lost and started asking myself questions on faith (whether we have lost the sense of God) and then took few pictures around it. My camera's lens hood was missing and there was moisture on the lens. .
.
I took this shot and did not check the result till I reached my guesthouse. And When I checked it, this image in particular was a mystical marvel in itself. The glare due to the moisture on lens had done its job and somehow the picture itself answered my question on faith. I did not share this image for a long time as I thought of it as a sign for something. Rest I leave it to you to interpret....
