It has felt to me that people in the United Kingdom were growing socially distant long before the outbreak of a virus, perhaps its arrival could mark the reversal. Since the financial crash, it has felt like one group of people have been allowed to carry on, while the other is asked to keep calm. Both must smile through gritted teeth. For me, surviving this strange paradox led the street to become a particularly interesting place to be with a camera. Whether I am feeling calm or upset, the street has allowed me to appreciate that I am not alone.
