“Golden Town” is the name of my hometown, and it is a normal small Chinese village in the mountains. On every Chinese New year, all family members would return home to celebrate Spring Festival and worship ancestors on mountains together. In my childhood, I thought all Chinese would uphold the same traditions.
When I came to study in Beijing and made friends from all over China, I was surprised that most Chinese families do not worship to their ancestors anymore, and they might never have the feeling of "a traditional Chinese family". Since then, I have a totally different feeling whenever I return to my hometown. Although we maintain the most traditional Chinese concepts in our isolated mountainous village, but they are also changing slowly under the pressure of mainstream culture, just like those old and crumbling houses.
