6 out of 10 people in Mexico earn a living in the so-called “informal economy” as street vendors, merchants, street traders, street musicians, etc. These are hardworking people, folks who fight every day to earn a living even with all the adversities they might face in a country historically plagued of corruption, violence, lack of opportunity, classism, and racism. Despite the informal nature of their craft, they are not only part of the urban scenery of the Mexican street but, they also play an important part in the Mexican economy creating 22.7% of the country’s GDP and representing 57% of Mexico's workforce.
