Cuba Kaleidoscope

In 2017, I packed up and sold my home in Massachusetts to move to Havana for a year in the hope of experiencing life in Cuba for myself. I rented an apartment in the heart of the city. Havana became my home and my classroom, as I experienced life with and through my Cuban neighbors, acquaintances, and newfound friends. I wandered endlessly through the city, shooting photos of Havana’s vibrant street life, spirited people, mind-bogglingly complex realities, and abundant urban decay. I also traveled to other cities to see how life was different outside of the capital. This photo series of Cuba aims to shed light on life in today’s Cuba. Each photo in the series tells a visual story about this country that is so full of colors, contrasts, and complexities. When viewed as a series, it is like looking through a kaleidoscope. All of the images are of Cuba, but with each turn of the kaleidoscope, there is a new image before you, with another story to tell.
