As a hematologist/leukemia physician, I had an opportunity to travel to Cuba in 2016 as part of the American Society of Hematology retreat to spend time with Cuban Hematologists and mutual exchange our knowledge and experiences. As I am an avid photogprapher, this was a special opportunity to document life on the streets of several of the places we visited, such as Havana and Trinidad. The Cuban people were warm and generous and resilient, but we are all familiar with the heavy burdens imposed upon them by the totalitarian government. You can see the dreams in their eyes. I hope these desires, often relayed to us in soft-volume conversation, become realized in the near future.
