The project ‘The Reflective and Transparent Poetry of Glass’ is an explicit search for order, understanding and structure in the chaotic world around us. It is rooted in an everlasting curiosity and fascination for mankind. Like an anthropologist I want to decipher and catalog the stories that surround us.
In these single-exposed images of populated cityscapes glass is omnipresent. Through transparency and reflection, two contradicting characteristics of glass, I try to create a multilayered and multidimensional world in which the relationship between the reflected and not-reflected worlds embodies the research into reality, perception and imagination.
With the use of high contrast black and white I aim to underlines this irrational and maybe even surrealistic, theatrical nature of the scenes and create a poetic but confusing reality that refers to a dreamworld with very few certainties and no logic at all.
On a side note, while processing these images I was listening to jazz a lot of the time and noticed that most bebop, hard bop and post bop records make a perfect match with these complex, multilayered images. Hence the titles.
