This series of photos was taken by me on January 19, 2020 in Russia in the Urals. On this day Russians traditionally celebrate the Epiphany, plunging into the icy water. Epiphany is a Christian holiday established in honor of the event of Evangelical history, the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan river by John the Baptist (Wikipedia). My little project about how the citizens of my country turned this sacred religious holiday into a folk ritual. Many people naively believe that after reading a prayer and plunging into the hole on this day, they will wash away all the sins that have accumulated over the year. On this day, old and young, rich and poor, sick and healthy, people of all social strata of the population go to the cherished hole in the ice.
