Constructing psychological space is the driving force behind my work. I examine concepts that involve the human psyche: the small foibles, phobias, and neuroses that make us all uniquely flawed, questioning the idea of normal. I am fascinated by how we see ourselves, others, and how others see us through our shortcomings. Further, I am exploring our attempts to cope with and manage our issues ourselves, and the inevitable pitfalls these efforts create.
I create installations in domestic or other private spaces . Each space represents a thought process, a feeling, or a subconscious drive. Everyday or readily available objects serve as psychological signifiers. I am fascinated by the ways in which we arrange our living spaces through our neuroses. Does the domestic space we have created assuage or exacerbate our inner conflicts?
It is ultimately the viewer who completes this work. There can be a comfort in recognizing that one is not the only person with such a problem. However, there is discomfort in the possibility of being face to face with an aspect of oneself that is in general negative. Each piece is a kind of self-test.
