Passing Through is about wondering where I am and what is happening outside the space I occupy. It is a series of landscape photographs that show the intersection of nature, humans and the built environment in different locations throughout America. The images are created through the window while traveling on Amtrak trains. I am at the mercy of this giant moving machine I create within. The predetermined path and space allows me to focus on one thing, the fleeting scenery; fully aware I must catch that split second when elements and sentiment align, then vanish. Timing is everything. The train does not slow, or turn around for me; giving no second chances for capturing each photograph. As the train snakes along, I work creating visceral impressions of a hidden America.
