Closure

This series is my personal journey into the past. Into the difficult economic past of 1990's perestroika in Russia, into the past of childhood vows, and into a time of pre-emigration when my family was whole. Captured a few years ago in St. Petersburg, Russia, this is a photographic and literal excavation of an apartment where my parents and I used to live. When we met in our old home, physically together again for the first time in many years, we entered a place where time had stood still since 1998. As we cleaned and unpacked our past life, I held tight to my camera. It was as if it allowed me to step outside of myself - sometimes to hide, but mostly to reflect. These images mark a significant moment for me and my parents, a point of acceptance and, perhaps, even closure. A step closer towards each other.
