Calgary-based Enbridge Energy plans to build an extension of its Line 67 (“Alberta Clipper”) that runs from Hardisty, Alta., across Minnesota to Superior, Wis., in order to increase the crude oil flow into the US. A 45-day public comment period was placed by the State Department, including a public hearing in Bemidji, Minn. People of the region had the opportunity to express their opinion on the cause either via email, write them on provided paper forms, or talk to stenographers. The same day, several regional environmental groups held a "Solution Summit" in Bemidji, focusing on renewable energies as alternatives to fossil fuels. People from all walks of life expressed their determination to keeping the waters of Minnesota clean for future generations. Participants then walked about two miles in whiteout conditions to the public hearing. Bemidji, Minn., March 7, 2017. On assignment for MPR News.
