My goal as an artist is to engage with Mother Nature through the use of my medium, which is mixed media fine art photography. These landscapes are our ancestors whether we grew up in them directly or not and nature is apart of us regardless of where we are from or live. Nature is my greatest inspiration and I always set out to take photos in epic landscapes in the middle of nowhere in locations that are very isolated. My subjects are always women, from all walks of life and varied ages and backgrounds. I photograph volunteers from instagram and my only requirement is that they are over the age of 18 and identify as a woman. I print the images out (often in large scales) and I then hand paint, and afterwards adding isolation coats and varnish. It is important to me that each piece is hand made and has taken considerable time to craft. I have spent years finding my own process and perfecting my techniques through trial and error. I love taking my subjects out into the wild and then creating a more exaggerated and otherworldly environment by adding layers of paint and charcoal to create a very surreal setting. Throughout this pandemic I have seen my work change considerably, I have noticed that I am adding more shadows and using darker colors and I have shot in the extremely harsh environment and weather of summer deserts, far out in areas where there is no cell reception and feels somewhat scary to me. I have embraced my fears and the darkness of these times, to try and harness creativity and expression through color and though the use of my imagination to make painted photos that might move someone, but at the very least, it has helped me to cope.
