I work in still life macro photography. My aim is to try and create a totally unique style of work, so that each image has no frame of reference outside itself.
Everyone takes photos these days, so it's harder and harder to surprise the viewer - I hope I achieve this.
I'm very influenced by birds, insects and plants - particularly how they adapt to harsh environments (like Australia) by growing protective shells, sharp teeth or cunning disguises.
To create my images I make a single object from combined natural materials (feathers, shells, buds, flowers) which I (often) spray paint before photographing in black and white.
From there I use digital distortion to create a totally new form that is only partly recognisable from its origins. I refer to these as hybrid life/art forms.
