I have been working on several conceptual photo series that focus on depression/mental health called "Mood Boards." A color visualization of images. It asks the viewer "When you're feeling anxious, or if you are having a depressive episode (Mood), what color are you? What color do you feel?"
This particular photo series Mood is Brown. The color brown is a warm color that stimulates. While it is sometimes considered dull, it also represents wholesomeness, reliability, elegance, security, healing, grounding, home, stability and warmth. Brown is stable and grounded and is believed to help you feel like you fit in and you belong.
“Why DON’T you LOVE me?” is a metaphor about self love.
[Last Summer] I was in an unhappy place. I was unable to leave the bed for days. One particular day I got up and forced myself to shoot something. I chose myself to be the subject. I looked in the mirror and I continued to ask myself,
“Why don’t you love me? Why do I let society, social media or my personal relationships warp my mind into thinking I’m not good enough?"
I wanted to share my experiences with anxiety and depression in a creative light. This photo series is an outlet to help face fears and be an inspiration to others. During these unprecedented times of COVID living, unrest, and uncertainty my goal is to bring more awareness on mental health, and shine a light on creativity, feminism and empowerment. Lastly, I would also like to leave to my audience that you are never alone in the world of art ; a place where everyone can be heard loud and clear.
