2020 ushered in a state of erosion, both personal and worldly. In this great pause, I found comfort in capturing, abstractly, the state of erosion in the rock desert canyons and arroyos of the southwest. This was an ongoing meditation as I live in the southwest and have access to my subject. These are captured using a long exposure technique. Each print is unique and requires a certain advanced technique to capture the sacred geometry that is aesthetically pleasing and harmonious.
I worked with the land as my creative canvas like a palimpsest. As the wind weathers the rocks we see erosion not as degradation, but as recreation. In this meditation on organic simplicity, I found harmony both in my work and in myself. Each Earth Aura softly demands contemplation and adheres to the magical common language of the universe: harmony & order.
This series carries the name Empire of Dirt, a reminder that the only material things left behind when we leave are organic materials suspended in the land itself.
