Drag invites humor and spectacle into the uncomfortable discussion of masculinity and gender in a society that continues to experience tension during the rise of post-gender norms/androgyny. As men begin to embrace behaviors (sensitivity, vulnerability empathy, etc) traditionally reserved for the woman, the schema of traditional masculinity begins to erode, allowing for the healthy adoption of new and nontraditional roles/behaviors. In one mode of thought, gender is seen as a performance, and in that, drag becomes a performance of a performance. These photos of the preparation and performance of drag are postured as a serious inquiry into and document of a culture that deserves a discerning eye.
