The body is a topic I never really discussed within my work before, since it’s the most personal and private topic, but at the same time the body is a theme that has been taken over completely by the public debate and media and has many tabus. A changing and aging (female) body is not formally accepted within a media driven society, where perfection and traditional beauty still prevails.
By using different materials I started to reflect on my pregnant and postpartum body, a body that “worked” since it gave life to another human being, but is also being seen by society as something we need to correct as soon as possible or hide for the outside world.
I used parts and pictures within theses works of my own pregnant and postpartum body and combined these images with different collages, vintage papers, photos, postcards or acrylic paint to add more layers.
With this series I am looking for ways to show the personal process of a changing and aging body, how to deal with this fact and how to try to accept your body after changes and aging.
