Nicholson Bottles

Photograms of old bottles found near an abandoned lumber town in northern Ontario. The organic matter and scratches on the bottles translate into unique light forms through this historical photographic process. Each bottle is unique and represents part of Canada's history of development, labour, industry and colonialism. The railway ties made in the abandoned mill town circa early 1900s were used to build and maintain the railway. The lumber mill was destroyed in 1933. The land and the lake hold clues to this history. Photograms are created in the darkroom using objects placed directly on photo paper and then light from the enlarger is used to create the image on paper.
