A process of methodological experimentation, exploration and constant questioning of the media is driven by the need to both deconstruct the representational character of a photograph and to expand the conventional limits of form, composition and dichotomy between the visible and the invisible.
The merging of practices, intervention and use of self constructed objects as subject, is an integral part of my creative process to thread a line between the real and imaginary. Abstraction is an inevitable consequence of the explorations.
Borders between a photograph, painting and object become fluid, themselves approaching invisibility. Boundaries between digital and analogue are increasingly dissolved and the potential deception of these is morphing into almost un-differentiated hidden world and new realties or lies. The present, past and future become blurred dimensions. The past becomes present, the present, past and future will manifest itself into a different dimension.
'Optical appearances - the other' is inspired by the uncertainty of Brexit and the changing nationalistic political tendencies. This directly affects me as a foreigner and homosexual living in the UK.
Using old photos, scans & self-made objects to merge them into compositions of a new reality whereby the “other ” (objects) play a vital part as a metaphorical representation of ambiguity. The past is overshadowed by the present and mutating into an unknown surrealistic future.
