Synthesis

The project title is ‘Synthesis’. The notion of combining separate elements to form one single unity and the merging of photography and plants. We wanted to highlight that beauty can come from anything whether it’s some old material lying around or a natural source and use these elements to form a new collated image. I photographed different models and we used a range of materials and plants to create new art pieces that we incorporated onto the model’s skin, so the merging of two life forms. We wanted to give the hair a raw treatment with a strong use of hair extensions to enhance the look adding depth and perspective, equally with the make-up, making it feel organic. What I love about this project is that it was ever evolving, using the selected images we wanted to create something new, strong and exciting. We created collages with the photographed portraits using paper, plants and fabric. These collages were then rephotographed to create a new portrait 'Synthesis'.
