Until 2020, my photography has focused on models as subjects. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I turned my camera lens onto myself as subject, playing the role of creative director and model. I made this choice due to both the physical constraints brought about by the pandemic as well as a curiosity on an emotional and spiritual level. The project brought with it new technical challenges, for example I could not rely on my model’s interpretation and collaboration in achieving the end goal, which ultimately helped me to unlock deeper levels of myself as an artist and even utilize my photography for my own self healing. In a sense as I sheltered in place, I delved deeper into the myriad of pain I had previously avoided in my life, staying with it to discover the power of my own vulnerability. The process has unfolded how I have evolved as a photographer as well as the rebirthing of myself at a time when life came close to a halt and I could somehow see the world more clearly.
