I haven't decided whether I prefer to be active (Hey! Look at the camera!) or passive (Hey! Pretend I'm not here!) when taking someone's portrait. Either way, I find an old camera disarms and relaxes a participant, and makes me more deliberate and patient (no, I am not one of those anti-digital snobs; I happily shoot with a Canon 80D). These photos were taken with a Hasselblad 500C, a Pacemaker Speed Graphic 4x5 or a Rolleiflex 3.5.
