今日も。ミッキーハウスで…(Kyo mo mickey house de) is a series about how i see people everyday as staff in an english conversation cafe in Tokyo during the corona pandemic.
I've been working in a cafe called "Mickey House" since May 2020 as a volunteer, so the people that are in my series are friends or customers that i know.
As a new artist in photography, it was really important for me to point out this strange period and how people are living together in this difficult situation.
5 staff (Loic, Tommy, Stéphanie, Johann, Josh), 4 customers (Ken, noriko, nozomi, kimiko) and the cafe owner's daughter : Saya are present in the series. As you noticed we have to use a kind of plastic sheet and masks to protect people while having conversation. This is how i work everyday.
When i see new customers i'm always wondering "how the person look like without the mask ?" so i started to take "double portraits" of the same person (with and without the mask). Unfortunately, when i work, i don't have the chance to see the face of people everytime. We all keep the mask as much as possible.
There is so many kind of people with different stories, i tried my best to show the link i have with them by playing with the light, contrasts and emotions...
This is maybe strange but if my flight was not cancel because of coronavirus, i couldn't have done this project... This idea came to my mind recently so i'm really glad to share with you today 10 of the 40 portraits i took so far ! Thanks for reading me !
