In Japan, “2LDK” (pronounce “nee-L-D-K”) means apartment with 2 Bedrooms, Living room, Dining room and Kitchen. This work started as a photo series of windows taken from the outside in residential areas of Tokyo. I was attracted by the way frosted or textured glass creates a blurry tableau of privacy. Then, I mixed these photos with views of my own apartment, creating hybrid Japanese private spaces.
This collage of various elements can evoke the tradition of still life. It could also convey the presence of an invisible resident slightly confused with the concepts of inside (uchi 内) and outside (soto 外).
