Seeing faces in my bathroom rug is a daily occurrence. I never find the same face twice. Like magic, tiny new ones appear unexpectedly. Apophenia is a term used to describe the phenomenon of seeing patterns in chaos.
The objects used in the set ups are domestic, found on the streets for free, or in the places I have lived. Using these familiar materials and objects I take joy in simple acts that thwart perception and challenge what we understand. I want to tug against reason and show a different logic. Things are in flux and unstable, often caught just before they collapse. The inherent futility of aspiring to create weightlessness interests me.
This work is about the small moments that are lost, but honored by efforts to find patterns in the chaos and coherence between the layers of or daily lives.
