I am a queer artist working across video, installation, and photography. The majority of my practice revolves around making images, shot in my bedroom closet, that sit between still life and portraiture. The images act like a diary, humorously aligning with b-movie tropes and aesthetics. I often think about subverting the “truthfulness” of photography by creating and altering structures to create narratives. This is actualized through shooting several different elements and digitally collaging them together to create a uniform single image, creating small scale sets that appear life size, or introducing artificial color into everyday situations.
Whether shot in my home on a small scale, or shot outside my home with family, my work deals with domesticity and the home as a place of safety within which you can air your grievances, worries, and desires. I try and emphasize the artificial qualities of the images I make, as if to play pretend, and create a safe space through which me and my queer family can exist.
