Having moved to São Paulo Brazil just a year before the COVID-19 pandemic began, I was still a newcomer here and I hadn’t gotten to see the city and speak the language as much as I wanted and needed to in order to blend in. Then, we all got the news that this virus was spreading and the city and its people began to shelter in place. I had some rolls of film and an old Nikon 500mm mirror refractive lens, and I also had the chemistry to process the film at home. So I turned my stubby lens outwards towards this megalopolis right outside my window. I got to know the city and it’s inhabitants through the geography and architecture of the built environment that surrounds and shelters them. All of these images were taken from our apartment in São Paulo Brazil. Most where shot with that old Nikon 500mm and processed and scanned without ever having to leave the apartment. I came to Brazil ready to explore all the natural and cultural offerings it has in abundance but am still waiting to really get out there, and see it all.
