The submitted materiał is a part of a bigger project titled “Awaiting”.
A deeply personal, autobiographical journey that was carried out mostly in real-time.
It narrates a 5 month period of involuntary home confinement, as a need for convalescence arises in the life of an of an ambitious and career-oriented 46 year old woman, a mother of two sons, strong and driven in the pursuit of her career oriented goals, always following the rhythm of relentlessly hectic schedules. She thought she was seemingly invincible.
Well.. seemingly.
All this comes to a sudden stop, as the author’s rhythm of life abruptly changes, following a serious heart attack episode which had caught her completely off-guard and put the entire existing order in forced suspension. A need for total withdrawal leaves her confused and full of fear.
Photography has become a medium for capturing the author’s emotions and states and it has also served as both a catalyst and a rescue from losing herself in despair and self-pity. The project has turned into a tool for keeping her sanity during the still ongoing anticipation for a change.
This project is a chronicle of … change, and a metaphorical “bardo state”, in which according to the Buddhist Tibetan Book of the Dead, this intermediate stage, is the gap between one life and the other, a haitus separating death and rebirth, it is an interval between the past and the unknown future.
