White Room is a ”room” created by Valeria Barbas in selfisolation, as a self investigation, a journal, of the daily thoughts, fears, dreams, wishes, protest, anxiety and observation of the artist in lockdown (2020-2021, part of artist apartment installation in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova). This project was conceived as a result of the lack of exhibition spaces during pandemic, COVID illness of the author and depression. Emphasizing the double isolation of people in depression, the artistic study of body and mind in relation with space also can be regarded as a exteriorization of the interior in the search of communication.
For people with depression in lockdown, when it is even confortable to "keep the distance", more than ever, the double isolation condition draws the scenario when even with the open door you cannot move outside. The project aim is to encourage isolated people, whether physically or emotional, by
reading the journal written by artist on her windows.
Opposite to the restriction of reading somebody’s journal, - the exteriorization of feelings and thoughts, the need of sharing comes along with other restriction - isolation. Each day a new window was created, a very temporary one, existing till the next day. In these difficult times, it is also a form of communication, passengers could see outside "the exhibition" that changed every day and night.
