Overwatching and surveillance are all relatively recent activities based on observation and control. Observation is a matter of being at the correct distance. If we look at a painting too closely we cannot have an overview; if we are too far from the painting we cannot see the details. What is the right distance to observe and which distance do we ultimately choose? Technology allows us to observe even more; to penetrate the surface intimately and see what exists beyond the parameters of our own perceptual mechanisms. This building is an
expression of contemporary transparency but dependant on the observable distance chosen, the subject becomes almost unrecognisable. At close proximity the subject becomes almost opaque and with too much distance the subject becomes a rasterised system. What are we looking at?
