My series "Waiting for the Awakening" shows a very personal view of an emotional state.
After visiting an exhibition showing female nudes in an abandoned prison I came up with the idea of showing imprisonment in a more general way, including compulsion.
So I started taking pictures from inside a prison, but also from my surroundings, in the studio or just rambling through nature - searching for visual impressions transcending that state of mind to me.
Intending to present my work from a viewer's standpoint and highly objective, screening of the first pictures was quite a shock, realizing that the story was in fact all about me.
All the stagnancy, absence, silence within the frames was nothing but a mirror to my own situation in life, where an anxious waiting for a change is the central element.
Waiting for a change, or: Waiting for the Awakening.
Despite the reference to my own person I didn't want to give too much indications for tangible incidents, individuals or facts. This is not about recognizing and understanding, but more about tracing and empathizing, comparable with listening to music.
For this reason I abstained from giving titles to single pictures.
Formally, the series is a collection of solely upright frames, emphasizing a selective, clipped sight, like small windows showing little pieces of inside view.
For the final presentation a book is intended, in regard to the amount of pictures, and also to have the project rounded off.
