What most people see of refugees in my country is a distant image broadcasted on TV. We can even choose the content we want to hear, depending on whether we lean right or left, support the government or hate it. We are able to choose the facts that justify our vision of the events. We never get closer to clear up the blurry image. We stay above the things happening around us, always stay on higher ground, while expressing our opinions on various things that we never see by own eyes. We comment about thousands of people on social networks like we knew all of them. While media and politics are largely responsible, we can’t always blame others for our indifference. We have to start getting closer.
