This project explores the materiality of the negative and passing time. Over the course of several weeks, I manipulated each polaroid negative by using heat, water, vinegar and baking soda. At each stage of the process, the polaroid becomes more fragile and takes on an unexpected and unplanned form. The materiality of the negative mirrors passing time; in this project, time is corrosive. I aim to challenge the object-ness of images and visualize each magical stage of something slipping away. A ghost of what was once there. Through this project I want to investigate the nature of photography and take away images from the traditional framework and method of creation.
