These images offer a glimpse of daily life of the American rancher and the dedicated work they devoted to maintaining healthy livestock. The scene is Douglas County, Washington. A rural setting approximately 200 miles east of Seattle and the Cascade mountains. Surrounded by a rocky terrain, sage brush, and farmland, I set out to make images of the scenes around me without knowing what to expect. What resulted were photographs that suggested a period frozen in time – even though the reality is the opposite. While Douglas County is steeped in history, it has continued to evolve as a strong and thriving community built on many generations that have contributed and continue to contribute to a sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
