The beams, bars and cables of structures that support bridges and power lines, are highly engineered, purpose-driven sculptures. Although their appearances taken as a whole, might seem confusingly elaborate and chaotic, there lies within the metal arrays an endless visual feast of juxtapositional possibility. When entered into and explored - the lines, angles, shapes, spaces, and connections within these rich three dimensional, structural realities - can amaze with new visual purpose and dynamic wonder, when pictorially flattened to showcase purely graphic, geometric wonder. This series attempts to expose the poetic, exhilarating and surprising visual wonderland that exists inside the science and engineered support of these structures. The images are often layered with textures photographed by the photographer, to soften and bring a more organic aesthetic to the final works.
