Photography is a powerful means of self exploration. This body of work is an exercise in photojournalism in the most introspective sense of the word. I allow myself to photograph whatever attracts me and in the choices I make, I learn about myself. At long last, I give myself permission to explore and reflect, to breathe and find stillness.
I see myself in bold colors that are honest, strong, and vivacious. I express my need for clarity and direction in clean and straight lines. I seek balance by simplifying the whole into beautiful measured pieces.
Within this body of work, I explore the breadth of feeling that can be expressed by the color Red. I express my own mood and circumstances, at times to create harmony and at other times, stark dissonance. Nevertheless, I engage with Red because of its pure magnetism.
I am drawn to Blue which is breath and stillness all at once; it is the energy and symbiosis of duality. Blue brings me clarity and feeds my soul. When searching for color on a white canvas, I find Blue more intuitively than any other color. I believe if you search with sincerity, then clarity comes to you.
I reflect on cause and effect in my exploration of Self in relation to Other. The cause can be seen or not, but the effect arrives into existence. The effect’s reality is verified by the visual perception and depth that takes form. This actualization has dimension, whereas the cause can remain a mystery and its existence at times only inferred. The cause nonetheless is superior as the effect cannot materialize without it.
My hope is to continue this self exploration in the years to come through the mirror of my photography. As I reflect on cause and effect, I have come to understand that the Other is none other than who I am now.
