I am an observer and my images are like sculptures, I compose and decompose.
This can be either elements of nature or parts of our Urban/architectural surroundings.
A detail becomes a main point (a protagonist) and I isolate it from it’s surrounding.
I subtract an element from it’s surrounding and with it I create an abstract world. An image in which a new visual language develops, is build by me by enhancing or enlarging shapes, shadows and atmospheres that catch my eye.
By abstracting I create an image that looses it’s sense of scale, time and familiarity and shows an original way of experiencing the world around. I see an image as a structure that can been seen from numerous perspectives, it consists of different elements made visible by context and individual experience.
The challenge for me as an artist is to translate the shapes around that we usually take for granted into something that marvels you in a subtle way. In the making process I have a big trust on intuition and I hope this also reflects on the beholder when viewing the image.
The use of paper is a big part of my work. The material language of paper excites me, I love the tactility it radiates.
Even though you can not literally feel the different paper structures they all reflect a certain atmosphere. My way of working is clean but far from steriel because of the shadow play and slight imperfections.
