Parque das Nações, Lisbon, Portugal
This photos stems from a photographic survey of the Parque das Nações. This set comes in the context of the urban World Exhibition of 1998, in which the Portuguese government reorganized the eastern front riverside Lisbon, a chaotic zone formed by the remains of the city dumps and refinery industries. Formed by a large residential area of superior quality, with shops and offices, the center contains the original perimeter of the Expo 98, with a series of monumental structures and centers of leisure and culture of public use. It also boasts a large garden in front of the Tagus, constituting one of the best areas of town. Although it is populated with relevant monuments, the perimeter of the Expo 98 did not interest me, since it was already well documented. I focused my attention on the residential neighborhood and the garden.
Along with the documentary aspect of this districts, I tried to give my photos some form of the poetic freedom found in the work of Great Masters like Atget or Gabriele Basilico, and also of many other photographs less notorious who publish their work either on paper or internet platforms.
