SHAPES OVER COLORS

“We live in a concrete jungle”. In my series of photos called "Shapes over Colors" I capture the oppressive architectures of big cities' buildings and I use them as subjects to convey the feeling of alienation given by living in big modern cities. Obsessive architectures and stagnant constructions that if observed daily from the outside completely lose their meaning and function, becoming lifeless structures that accentuate the coldness of an indifferent and frenetic world to the maximum. To convey this and help the viewer's eye to concentrate mainly on the shapes that I capture I consciously decided to use a black and white aesthetic. Colors are a powerful distraction to the eye and without them, it's easier to concentrate on the shape of the subject instead. This project's other key elements are the deconstruction of the modern city into geometrical shapes, the decontextualization of the subject from its environment , the rotation of the point of view to alienate the viewer and the feeling of movement given by the composition. In all of these photos there are no life signs. No people, animals, not even plants, only these lifeless constructions. The sky is always either pure black or pure white. In these shots all the windows of the buildings are either black or opaque, there is nothing behind them to look at. These stylistic traits were chosen to create an almost dystopian, alternate projection of the modern city.
