Primordial waters is a recurring motif in many creation myths, ranging from the judeo-christian tradition to tales from philippines and latin america. In these tales water has a significant importance as a force of nature that existed before creation itself. It is from these dark waters, commonly called chaos, that many gods and consequently all life forms emerge. For psychologists these creation tales can be seen as an awakening towards consciousness.
In the post-Covid 19 world, we are collectively experiencing a new awakening of consciousness. The arrival of a global pandemic has exposed the problems and inequities of neoliberal capitalism in a way that can no longer be disguised with a rhetoric of economic prosperity. We are in the middle of the birth process of new forms of living, of relating with one another, of relating with our environment, of behaving as a society.
We are in the chaos of new myths.
