I am submitting 10 images from an ongoing series about the human body titled 'Hide and see'.
The selection I made is about alienation and gender. The images create confusion about identity, gender and sexuality. What exactly do you see? Is it the back or chest? What makes a body masculine or feminine? Does it matter?
The photos are taken while the subject is undressing. It is an act that is normally short-lived and usually not seen by others. Taking off a garment causes a brief moment of anonymity. The face is hidden behind the garment, while the body is revealed in all it's vulnerability.
While undressing, each person develops a different visual of shapes and lines. Everyone's body is different and everyone assumes different positions when undressing. Body, posture and clothing become one.
I select and edit the images to emphasise alienation, composition, but also the specific characteristics of a body. With this I direct the viewer's eye so that they see what I see.
