In May of 2020 protests broke out here in Louisville, Kentucky over the police killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and many others. These were greeted with even more brutality by police, whose militarized response further inflamed the city. These photographs are meant to give those who weren't there some idea of how the two sides acted and conducted themselves. Watching it all unfold, I was convinced that if people could just see for themselves the humanity of the protesters and the inhumanity of the police response, they would understand why people were protesting.
