Riff of Silence Statement

“The Riff of Silence” is an ongoing project based on the chance encounter. It provides a poetic perception of the mundane. In this body of work, randomness is no longer a means, but a being. Wandering on the often empty and quiet street gives me a sense of joy. I am especially drawn to the juxtaposition of light and shadow and form an imaginary improv play in my head. Using deliberate coincident as a metaphor, I photographed randomly on previously exposed film and created enigmatic overlapping images. In those two layers of time, two unrelated events fused into an abstraction space. In the entangled web of intended actions and unintended instances, the photographs spark curiosity and inquiry in the world around us.
